THREE LITTLE LETTERS

THREE LITTLE LETTERS

S-I-N. Those three little letters appear together in any place or life where glorifying God is not the supreme motive. One of the most neglected biblical doctrines of our contemporary generation is the universal sinfulness of man. We are all sold under sin. Pick up a newspaper this morning and it won't take you too long to see the sick state in which our world is submerged: murder, fraud, gang rape, adultery and a host of other evils.

Modern society has done away with the term 'sin' and calls it 'crime.' But sin is not crime and crime is not sin. This is just a trick to con us into believing that we are all good people. You can go to jail for crimes that are not sinful (i.e. preaching the Gospel, speaking out against the onslaught of moral decadence, protecting the poor, weak, needy and vulnerable), just as you can spead all of your life in liberty- never having committed a single crime- but having lived in an abundance of sin (i.e. a loose and venomous tongue, sleeping around outside of marriage, gossip, looking down your nose at people you don't esteem to be worthy of your company). Sin is sin. God is not blind. The West may no longer condemn godlessness and sensual pleasure, but God still does. His standard has not lowered one bit. That, for many, will come as a big shock.

But our streets are not the only place where sin is radically downplayed today; the same reality applies to the church. Godly prophets have been replaced by spokesmen from Sodom who turn the grace of God into a license for sin. "Do as you like, live howsoever you wish, sin 'til you're as sick as a pig! After all, God will forgive it all! You're the centre of the universe. All else revolves around you!"

If we don't speak of sin, we cannot understand the glory of the Gospel. When sin goes out of your sermons, then you are no longer going to preach of the biblical Christ who came to this world due to the sin problem. Had we not been vicious enemies of the goodness of El Shaddai, Christ would not have had to die on the cross. Our sins nailed Him there. Spurgeon commented that preaching against sin has never been in fashion and never will be. One question must be settled before entering the pulpit: do we exist to get applause from the multitude or do we live for the glory of God?

Sin shows the reality of condemnation stamped upon the forehead of every man and woman birthed into this world. However, as we contemplate our own depravity and apostate state, the enlightening work of the Holy Ghost can turn this morbid truth into a springboard that projects us towards the light of the Gospel. It throws us into the arena where the mercy and grace of a sovereign God stun us with their blinding glory. Jesus could have left us to perish in our beastly iniquities. He didn't have to save us. Who obliged God? Who counselled the Almighty?

Those three little letters S-I-N are struck the death blow by another three letters G-O-D. If you haven't seen the awfulness and wretchedness of your sinful heart, then you know nothing of the glory due to Christ in saving a damned soul. Heavenly messengers aren't going to get many thanks for their straight biblical preaching; but God will honour the man who stands upon His Word and tells things the way they are.

Sin is the curse of all curses. It hurts the Christian. Nothing has damaged this world more than sin. But thanks be to God that through the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ, God can make us more than overcomers over against the power and wages of transgression. And if we have sinned, we can confess our faults to Him; His blood will cleanse us and He will make us whole again (1 John 1:9).

If you have seen and understood your wretched condition, then thank God incessantly for showing it to you. How much worse would it be if the Holy Ghost were to allow you to go on living comfortably in sin without so much as a word of reproof? That would surely be the greatest horror of all. When a man's conscience no longer smites him of sin, he is in the scariest place that a person can know.

When S-I-N comes knocking, be sure to flee and find refuge in the arms of our great G-O-D and Saviour.

Children's time

This video seems some how, but it makes me feel or remember that everyone passes the stage of childhood.

I can say this is their time to show and enjoy the childhood stage.

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

The Gospel is just a fancy term for ‘good news’. So the Gospel’s a good thing. But what is it that distinguishes the New Testament Gospel from any other type of good news that we might receive i.e. passed exams, the birth of a new born baby, a promotion at work, etc.?

The differentiating factor regarding the Christian Gospel is that it is focused upon the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. In fact, the name of Jesus is the simplest definition of the Gospel. Sometimes when people ask me, “How do you define the Gospel?” I just reply, “Jesus. He is the Gospel.”

So what is it about the person and work of Jesus that makes Him so synonymous with good news? Well, that must be understood against the backdrop of man’s (woman’s) rebellion against God. After all, Jesus came to earth for theological reasons. His mission on earth was a divine one.

Men (women) sinned. They preferred darkness to light and revolted against their Creator in the Garden of Eden. Such wickedness entailed the death penalty upon all of Adam’s descendants (and yes, that includes you and me). Condemned to suffer mercilessly throughout all eternity, man (woman) was left with no hope in the world. Yet God- the offended party- prophesized of coming redemption through One who would crush the serpent’s head (Genesis 3:15). That conqueror was His very own Son.

Jesus came to give His life for sin. This is the cornerstone of the apostolic Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:3). He died for Adam’s accursed race so that the punishment soon to devour them would fall squarely upon Him. And in that way, Christ delivered His people from eternal wrath via the sacrifice of Himself to God.

That- in brief terms- constitutes the biblical Gospel. And that’s what makes it such exceedingly good news. It means that it is possible to be at peace with God through faith in what Jesus did (Romans 5:1). And for everyone who trusts Jesus, the wrath of God is past tense (and no longer future). The Gospel signifies that Jesus saves, that Jesus forgives and that Jesus grants eternal life to hell-deserving sinners. Not a bit of wonder then that it’s called good news!

HOW TO USE FACEBOOK FOR GOD’S GLORY

HOW TO USE FACEBOOK FOR GOD’S GLORY

Facebook is not just a great way to keep in contact with old friends and family members that live abroad. It has become an authentic modern day mission field. Never before have so many millions been accessible at just the click of a button. So much good could be done for the Kingdom of God if the Lord’s servants used Facebook for God’s glory. Let’s find out how…

1.- Promote a Gospel focus on your Page.

May your status updates, videos, songs, notes and photos make Jesus look marvellous! Turn the spotlight on Him and share about what He’s done for you. Leave no doubt that Christ is the love of your life. Exalt Him exuberantly and constantly. Turn your Page into a joy-filled hymn of praise.

2.- Be gracious to all.

Once you start to magnify Jesus, don’t be surprised to find some of your more sceptically-minded contacts throwing cold water on you. Opposition is a promised gift to all of God’s disciples. But be patient, kind and warm-hearted when dealing with your ‘enemies’. Keep meek. Keep humble. And always be ready to give an answer to “every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15). Be firm but respectful.

3.- Do nothing to denigrate God’s character.

If your contacts know that you are believer then please don’t do anything online that would lead them to blaspheme the name of the Lord. What kind of things do I have in mind? Uploading dirty jokes, half-naked photos of yourself, comments with swear words, harsh criticisms of other people (especially loved ones and other believers), constant joyless negativity and emotionally manipulative images that usually carry messages like “Please click like and we will offer up a prayer for this terminally sick person” or “Share this image and God will bless you thirty-fold”, etc. You know the type of garbage I’m talking about. Christians must shun even the very appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22).

4.- Moderate your activity.

Remember also that there is more to life than logging into social networks. There are no doubt people under your roof and in your neighbourhood who would be blessed by your flesh-and-blood presence. Don’t let Facebook rob you from real life face-to-face contact with folk and friends who love you. You weren’t created to be a ‘virtual’ believer but a real life one.

Conclusion

In sum, in all of your Facebook activity let the apostolic motto ring true: “Whatever therefore you eat, or drink, or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). Turn your Page into a Gospel witness, be gracious to others, don’t upload anything that would bring God or His people into repute and be sure to use Facebook moderately. Those are just some ways in which any servant of Christ can go online and use Facebook for God’s glory. Hope that helps...

Should Man be Alone?

IT IS NOT GOOD THAT MAN SHOULD BE ALONE

In Genesis 2:18 the Lord declares, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.” You’ve read it. I’ve read it. And it sounds ever so lovely. But have we ever stopped to ask the real reason why it is not good that man should be alone? Let’s find out.

1.- Man was created for others.

First and foremost if we look at things from a strictly anthropological angle, man was created for communion and fellowship. As a recipient of God’s great love, he needed people around about him with whom he could share the blessings of the Almighty. Man was not made to be alone. God didn’t create isolated individualistic beings. There is something within man’s heart that reaches out for others. It forms part of his constitution. Folk that hide themselves away from community life for prolonged periods of time become barbaric, mad and uncivilized. Remember that the worst punishment possible for any prisoner is solitary confinement. Man just can’t make it alone.

2.- Man was created to reflect God.

But man wasn’t only given a perfect help mate in order to please him. Eve’s existence was more than anthropologically driven. It was theological. Adam and Eve together represented the image and likeness of God on earth. It was only when they were male and female together that God pronounced them as according to “His own image” (Genesis 1:27)- not a second sooner. Paul said that any teaching forbidding man to marry was a doctrine of devils (1 Timothy 4:1-3). When two became one they were able to make known the glory of God on the earth. How come? Because the God of Scripture is Trinitarian. God has never been alone. Even before the foundation of the world, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit abode in eternal communion and love. God delights in others. He lives in the bliss of perpetual togetherness.

3.- Man was created to display Christ and the church.

It’s not until we get to the New Testament that we find out another reason why male-female marriage is so important. Ephesians 5:22-33 is a precious paragraph that establishes an analogy between the husband-wife relationship and the Jesus-church one. Marriage exists to magnify Christ. It tells us something of the great love between the Saviour and His saved people. In this portion of Scripture Paul lists various things which make Christ manifest in a marriage: submission, headship, protection, love, nourishment, cherishing, union, reverence, etc. In other words, when two souls get married on earth, their marriage is not an end in itself. It points to a greater reality, that is, the love between Christ and His flock.

Conclusion

The aforementioned should help us to realize why it is not good for man to be alone. Evidently some disciples may have the gift of continence and thus feel no desire for marriage, but even so, that does not excuse them from embracing the warm hug of human fellowship and fraternity. We are all created for one another. That is what’s good for us. That is what makes us reflect God. And that is what displays the love of the Lord Jesus for His bride.
